STAND WITH JOLLIBEE WORKERS IN THE U.S. AND THE PHILIPPINES!
We, in the Kilusang Mayo Uno (May First Movement), express our warmest solidarity to the ongoing Justice For Jollibee Workers Campaign being launched globally to highlight the plight of workers working in Jollibee stores across the globe.
In the US, much like in the Philippines, workers are paid measly wages, and suffer under the brutal policy of casualization that pushed them deep into a situation of job insecurity. Their voice in the workplace and their right to organize are consistently trampled upon as management continues to intensify productivity through multitasking and mistreatment to ensure larger profits.
Jollibee workers in the US made a petition letter demanding higher wages, holiday pay and better workplace conditions that they were planning to deliver to management. The petition garnered the support of 90% of the workforce. However, before the letter was delivered, the management found out about the initiative and unceremoniously terminated 9 workers who were working on the petition.
In 2018, campaigns to regularize thousands of contractual Jollibee workers in the Philippines were launched only to be met with the company’s refusal to abide by the orders of the Philippine Labor Department. Much worse, 400 workers who organized and campaigned for regularization were laid off.
In that same year, Jollibee Foods Corporation, owned by Tony Tan Caktiong, ranked at the top of 20 companies engaging in labor-only contracting. Tan Caktiong ranks 7th in the Top 10 Richest Filipinos list, with a net worth of USD 2.6 billion as of 2022.
In all corners of the world, Jollibee remains to implement its infamous practices of violating basic labor rights and standards. The situation highlights the need for greater international solidarity among workers in all Jollibee stores.
Let us stand with Jollibee workers across the world in their campaign to end these labor rights violations by Jollibee Foods Corporation. We call on our fellow workers in the Philippines, the US, and worldwide to unite and fight corporate greed and exploitation!
